ACNE & GUT HEALTH- How your digestion can impact your skin

As a teenager I had terrible acne. The worst. I tried every skincare on the market...even the ones that bleached all of our bath towels (yikes!). So when I see people in clinic that suffer with acne, I get it. Like any health condition, you need to have experienced it to fully be empathetic towards your clients. So now when I get compliments about my skin, it means the world to me, because I am never taking my skin for granted. And I know I am not perfect and I will still get the occasionally pimple here and there, but I am totally ok with that, as I can generally identify what has caused it. Its the week before my period or I have overindulged on some less than healthy foods. For me the

Ditching the diet || Establishing a healthy body composition by changing your mindset

For a lot of men and women, being happy with their body doesn't come easy. Unfortunately due to social media tends, what we perceive as being "perfect" is so far from the truth. This one especially hits home for me. In my younger years, struggling with body image, I continually punished myself by starving myself of the nutrients my body needed through dieting through restricted calorie consumption and pushing my body through excessive exercising. Thankfully from the knowledge gained throughout my degree and the relationship I've developed with myself, I learned the value of food and in fueling and repairing my body with exactly what it needs. I am proud to say that I don’t believe in scales

Is the cause of acid reflux always excess stomach acid?

If you suffer from acid reflux or (GORD) then did you know that it can also be attributed to low stomach acid? Yep thats right, I said low. Many people associate reflux with to much acid, but from clinical experiences I find that 9 times out of 10 it is not enough acid. When there is not enough acid to break food down, then the food sits in our stomach, ferments and then these gases and occasionally the food will travel beck up the oesophagus. Is your stomach acid working properly? Never really thought about it? I don’t blame you! Not many people have. But it is really important that you start taking notice, especially if you suffer from any sort of digestive symptoms. So how does my st

Supermarket Tour Wrap-Up. How to make healthier choices for you & your family.

A few weeks ago now I was lucky enough to be able to take a group through a local supermarket and really go through the nitty gritty of what is in our foods. We looked at a wide range of products, but focussed heavily on perceived ‘health foods’ as well as basic staples that we all use everyday, bread, oils, and meats as well as many others. And to be honest, even I got a surprise when we looked more deeply into the foods that we picked up. I’ve had a few requests from people that couldn’t make the tour to put together a post which outlines what we spoke about, so this brings me to days topic. Supermarket shopping and debunking the food we are eating. And this is a topic that we could easily
